Formed in 1920 as the Heidelberg District Musical Society, Heidelberg Choral Society is a Melbourne institution!
From sacred to secular, oratorios to opera, Bach to The Beatles, our great community choir has been making music for over a century.
Ask our choristers why they love singing, and their answers invariably include fun, diverse range of music, high standard of performance, friendship, overseas singing tours, and the good for the soul feeling of just being with like-minded people. It’s also the opportunity to sing some of the greatest music ever written.
Our choir includes soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices and currently we have around 90 active members. Each year we perform three major concerts – May, August and December. Most of our concerts feature professional soloists and orchestral accompaniment. For some concerts, we perform with organ or piano.
Peter Bandy has been our Artistic Director and Conductor since 2011. Peter has earned a formidable reputation conducting successful performances of choral, orchestral, opera and ballet music. Peter has spent years perfecting his craft as Music Director, Music Arranger, Chorus Master and Orchestra Manager.
We’re also fortunate to have well-known Melbourne musician and teacher Kathryn Pisani as our rehearsal accompanist.
No formal audition is necessary to join us. Heidelberg Choral Society is known in Melbourne as the friendly and inclusive community choir. We’re also known for our professionalism and desire to improve on every performance.
If you have a passion to sing, come along to a rehearsal. We’d love to meet you.
Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings,
